Backstory: -SPOILERS FOR ANGEL SANCTUARY BELOW!!!-
Arachne was raised as a prince. He was the third son of the King, and the Prophecy had said that it would be the third son to inherit the throne. He grew up in isolation so that his studies would not be interrupted and so that he would be safe.
However, this was just a ploy put into place by his father. The true prophecy said that the one to inherit the throne would be the fourteenth daughter. He was just a scapegoat, the one that would be sacrificed for the safety of the princess. The rebels came to slaughter him and everyone in the castle (including his servant and his first love) when he was fifteen. Luckily for him, however, there was a third army that knew of this and knew of the true prophecy. They told him what had happened, and he was saved.
After being nursed back to health (he had several grave injuries), he killed his cousin, Arachne, and assumed his identity, and began wearing make-up to hide his face. As a result of this, his new parents would often beat him. However, since he planned to get revenge on the kingdom, he didn't allow this to bother him.
He betrayed his family and friends to the rebel army when he was twenty, and a civil war broke out, killing all of his family and friends with the exception of one, his youngest sister and the one who would truly inherit the throne, Kurai.
Once the rebel army had wiped out the royal family (sparing, of course, himself because he was their spy), the third, secret army stepped in and annihilated the rebels, leaving his kingdom to nothing more but ruins.

After that happened, he took a job at St. Mark's, an all-boys magical school, lying about his education since he had never gone to college or even highschool. He developed a crush on one of the boys, a Junior named Kira, and they became fast friends, even after Kira discovered he was a man. However, he quit his job there after just half a year when the student body discovered he was a man, and when taking care of Kurai needed to be a full-time job (the nine year old had been traumatised from the ordeal with her family, and couldn't stand to be separated from Arachne for so long).
Arachne took to stealing to support himself and Kurai. Kurai became more independent, so he sent her to a boarding school the next school year and took up a teaching job at St. Catherine's, and has been there since, though she still visits Kurai as often as she can and phones her quite often to make sure she's okay.
